What is Mannanase Enzyme?

β-Mannanases (endo-1,4-β-d-mannanase) is endohydrolase that catalyze the random hydrolysis of the β-1,4-d-mannopyranosyl linkage within the main chain of various mannan-based polysaccharides to yield mannooligosaccharides products. Mannanase Enzyme have been isolated and characterized from different sources including bacteria, fungi, higher plants, and animals. However, microbial mannanases are wildly used in the industrial application.

Mannanase Enzyme was classified based on the amino acid sequence similarity into glycoside hydrolase (GH) families 5 and 26 and a few member of family 113. These enzymes from different organisms have different properties such as enzyme activity, optimal pH, and optimal temperature. So, β-mannanases with high specific activity and remarkable enzymatic properties are required for the application. β-Mannanase is very useful enzyme that has been used in several industrial applications including food, feed, pulp, and paper industries. This enzyme can be used to improve the bleaching of pulp by facilitating the release of lignin from paper pulp leading to the reduction of chemical reagents. It can be used to reduce the viscosity of instant coffee and to clarify fruit juices and wines in food industry. β-Mannanase also have been used as animal feed additive enzyme to increase the nutritional value of animal feed components. Moreover, there is increasing interest in using β-mannanase to produce mannooligosaccharides (MOS) which have the prebiotic properties from natural mannan-based substrates. This enzyme is also used for the pretreatment of biomass in the bioethanol production.

Qi Wenwen et al. studied the effect of mannanase enzyme on laying performance and egg quality of laying hens. The results showed that wheat was used to replace 40% to 80% of corn in layer diets and β-glucanase and Xylanase has no effect on the feed intake, body weight, egg production performance and egg quality of laying hens, but the rate of broken eggs and egg yolk color decrease.

Gao Chunsheng et al. studied the effect of β-glucanase on the growth performance and feed digestibility of grass carp. The results showed that the average weight gain of grass carp increased by 16.51%, the average feed coefficient decreased by 6.59%, the dry matter digestibility increased by 7.27%, crude protein digestibility increased by 7.32%, crude fat digestibility increased by 2.45%, crude fiber digestion The rate has increased by 13.60%.

Xu Guowu and others studied the effect of mannanase enzyme on the growth performance and feed digestibility of carp. The results showed that carp weight gain rate increased by 18.62%, feed coefficient decreased by 5.6%, crude protein utilization rate increased by 5.08%, and crude fat utilization rate increased by 5.45%.

The results of Cheng Huichang and others showed that the average weight gain of Yellow River carp increased by 22.19%, the average feed coefficient decreased by 7.27%, the dry matter digestibility increased by 5.51%, and the crude protein digestion rate increased by 22.19% after adding β-glucanase to the diet. The rate increased by 6.72%, the digestibility of crude fat was increased by 9.91%, and the digestibility of crude fiber was increased by 23.68%.
