What is Keratinase?

Keratinase is a particular class of extracellular proteolytic inducible enzyme with the capability of degrading insoluble keratin substrates. It is important for hydrolyzing hair, feather, and collagen in sewage system during waste water treatment. It is also useful in food industry, animal feed preparation etc. Insoluble feather keratin from poultry industry may be converted by enzymatic hydrolysis to glues, feedstuffs, fertilizers, films or used for the production of rare amino acids serine, cysteine and proline.

Uses

Keratinase enzyme can lyse proteins with robust cross-linked structures, such as keratin, and can hence be used in animal feed, fertilizer, detergent, leather, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industries. Bacillus polyfermenticus B4, isolated from feather compost, secretes keratinase to metabolize feathers.

1. Supplement the deficiency of endogenous protease for animal.

2. Increase the digestibility of protein and amino acid in poultry and swine feed ingredients.

3. Degrade the trysin inhibitor and lectin, this is what endogenous protease can’t do.

4. Optimized the use of lower digestibility feed ingredient e.g corn, sorghum, feather meal,soybean meal and blood plasma powder.

5. Creat a better environment for animal and decrease pollution from nitrogen for human.
