D-Calcium pantothenate is one of the B vitamins and one of the nutrients necessary for the normal growth of organisms. Calcium pantothenate exists in three forms due to its chiral carbon atoms: DL-body (mixed body), D-body (dextrorotary body) and L-body (levorotatory body). Only D-pantothenate calcium has biological activity. Appearance is white or slightly yellow needle-like crystal or powder, melting point 195～196℃ (decomposition), soluble in water, methanol, glycerin, slightly soluble in ethanol and acetone, hygroscopic, slightly sweet, but slightly bitter . As far as chemical stability is concerned, it is the most stable in an aqueous solution with a pH value of 5-7. It is more stable in air and sunlight, but has poor stability in acids and alkalis.
