1. Application on chicken
Copper Oxychloride has the advantages of no moisture absorption and agglomeration, good fluidity, no oxidation and destruction of vitamins, and high bioavailability. It can also reduce the environmental pollution caused by copper excretion, which is of great significance in animal production. Ammerman et al. studied copper sulfate and basic copper chloride as copper sources for broilers. The corn-soybean meal basal diet contained 2 mg/kg of copper, and copper sulfate or basic copper chloride was used as the copper source, and 0, 150, 300, and 450 mg/kg copper were added to feed for 21 days. When fed with 450 mg/kg copper sulfate, its feed intake was the smallest. Regardless of the source of copper fed, the liver copper concentration was linearly related to the dietary copper level. If the bioavailability of copper sulfate is 100%, the relative bioavailability of basic copper chloride is 106%. Miles et al. carried out a 42-day feeding experiment with broiler chickens, adding 0, 200, 400, and 600 mg/kg of copper to the corn-soybean meal basal diet in the form of copper sulfate and basic copper chloride to gain weight. And the feed conversion rate no longer changes when the copper addition exceeds the level of 400 mg/kg.
2. Application characteristics and prospects of Copper Oxychloride
It has been proved by practice since its application as a feed additive that it meets the requirements of high-efficiency copper source, low-level growth promotion, weak destructiveness to nutrients, safety and economy. Basic copper chloride is a trace mineral used for feed copper source, and its copper content is as high as 58%. This basic salt is insoluble in water but dissolves quickly and easily in the intestinal tract of animals. Compared with other copper sources, basic copper chloride has a high utilization rate and can be quickly dissolved in the digestive tract. Stable and low hygroscopicity, it will not accelerate the oxidation of vitamins and antibiotics.
The biological effectiveness and biological safety of basic copper chloride are higher than that of copper sulfate. The amount of copper used is 25%-30% less than copper sulfate, which can completely replace copper sulfate. It not only reduces the cost of feed, but also greatly reduces the environmental pollution caused by copper excretion. Copper Oxychloride is a good source of animal copper. Therefore, using basic copper chloride to replace copper sulfate in animal husbandry production is both economical and affordable, and meets environmental protection requirements. It has found a solution for the sustainable development of animal husbandry. Basic copper chloride will have broad application prospects.
