What is Scutellaria Baicalensis Extract?

Scutellaria baicalensis root extract is an herb used in traditional Chinese medicine to treat a variety of conditions including hepatitis, infections, and cancer. It often is used in combination with other botanicals such as PC-SPES and sho-saiko-to.

Preclinical data suggest that compounds in scutellaria baicalensis extract cause apoptosis in various cancer cells or protect against doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity. However, both scutellaria baicalensis root extract and its main flavonoid baicalin appear to have dose-dependent pro- and anti-angiogenic effects. Some constituents may also have neuroprotective, anticonvulsant, and anti-inflammatory effects.

Scutellaria Baicalensis Extract, or Chinese skullcap, has been widely used as a medicinal plant in China for thousands of years, where the preparation from its roots is called Huang-Qin. Scutellaria baicalensis root extract has been applied in the treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, hypertension, hemorrhaging, insomnia, inflammation and respiratory infections. Flavones such as baicalin, wogonoside and their aglycones baicalein wogonin are the major bioactive compounds extracted from the root of S. baicalensis.

Scutellaria baicalensis extract and baicalein have an inhibitory effect on passive systemic allergy (PSA), passive skin allergy (PCA) and skin irritation caused by histamine. It can inhibit allergic edema and inflammation, and can reduce ear capillaries in mice

3. Diuresis, choleretic, antipyretic, antihypertensive, sedative.

4. Clinical: scutellaria baicalensis root extract are mainly used to treat hepatitis, for acute jaundice, acute non-jaundice and chronic hepatitis.

Applied in the veterinary field, it is made into the pelvis to treat acute bacillary dysentery, gastro-enteritis, and pneumonia of poultry and livestock.
