What is Cellulase Enzyme Powder?
Cellulase enzyme powder is any of several enzymes produced chiefly by fungi, bacteria, and protozoans that catalyze cellulolysis, the decomposition of cellulose and of some related polysaccharides. The name is also used for any naturally occurring mixture or complex of various such enzymes, that act serially or synergistically to decompose cellulosic material. Cellulase enzyme powder break down the cellulose molecule into monosaccharides (“simple sugars”) such as beta-glucose, or shorter polysaccharides and oligosaccharides. Cellulase powder breakdown is of considerable economic importance, because it makes a major constituent of plants available for consumption and use in chemical reactions. The specific reaction involved is the hydrolysis of the 1,4-beta-D-glycosidic linkages in cellulose, hemicellulose, lichenin, and cereal beta-D-glucans. Because cellulose molecules bind strongly to each other, cellulolysis is relatively difficult compared to the breakdown of other polysaccharides such as starch.

According to Yin Qingqiang et al. (1992), adding 0.6% and 1.2% cellulase powder complex enzymes to the basal diet resulted in a 16.84% and 21.86% increase in the weight gain of growing and finishing pigs compared with the control group. Wank et al. (1993) reported that the addition of cellulase increased the digestibility of neutral detergent fibers from 30.3% to 34.1%, the digestibility of acid detergent fibers from 68.8% to 73.9%, and the energy digestibility from 69.3% to 71.8%. .
